Monsoon season is always beautiful & refreshing;
however it may not be great for our skin. The humidity and the moisture in the
atmosphere during the monsoon may adversely affect our skin and lead to skin related
issues like rashes, eczema (Dermatitis), Urticaria (Hives), acne breakout, folliculitis,
allergic reaction, athlete’s foot, and jock itch, fungal, viral & bacterial infections.
Cases of Insect bite dermatitis (IBD) and children suffering from atopic dermatitis are
also more frequent.
People suffering from the diseases which lowers the immunity
like Diabetes , Obesity as well as those who are prone to allergies have a tough time
during this season; are more susceptible to infections and may triggered the skin
problems due to the changes in temperature and the exposure to the increased humidity.
Our skin naturally has abundant microorganisms. The rises in environmental humidity and
the local skin temperature are most conducive for the growth of the microorganisms in
this humid climate. Due to moisture, bothersome inflammation of skin and natural body
folds can be aggravated by skin-on-skin scraping. This humid climate also translates to
sweaty feet and it is quite frequent for clothes and shoes to get wet, which become
hotbed for allergies. Chemicals such as glue, adhesives, bonding agents and treatment
agents are present in the rubber or plastic shoes which react with water and cause
contact dermatitis. Synthetic clothes contain chemicals and the wet clothes tend to rub
against the body causing allergies giving rise to fungal infections especially in the
body folds such as the areas like neck, armpits, below the breasts, elbow folds, groin,
behind the knee and feet are much more sensitive to skin allergies.
During the humid and adverse weather, it becomes imperative to take care of the
skin. Prevention is better than cure is a universal verity. Hence, it is extremely
beneficial to boost your immunity and speeds up your body’s healing processes to fight
against these infections. Consult a doctor without delay, as dermatologists give
satisfying and safe results when dealing with all the above skin conditions during humid
and changing weather period.
